ON MR. POPE, AND THE TAR-WATER.
Pope with a stock of genius bless'd,
That few beside could boast,
Was still the butt of spite and jest
To all the critick host.

By song thou didst, tho' now so mute,
Immortal fame secure;

It is thought the good bishop's new scheme of embalming
alive, by the plentiful use of tar-water, will be put in
practice by several persons of his distinction, who are in
great danger of stinking after they are dead. [signed]
